Data Shield
Get answers that respect third-party data source permissions
Data Shield tightly integrates with all the systems your team has connected to Unblocked, ensuring that the responses you receive adhere to the permissions configured in those systems. When activated, it restricts data access in Unblocked according to the permissions established in your connected third-party systems. This guarantees that the answers generated by Unblocked only contain source material that the user posing the question is authorized to access.
Demo Video
Watch this brief video to see how enabling Data Shield affects your Unblocked responses.
In the video a sensitive document is added to Google Drive, and a user asks Unblocked about the information in the document. With Data Shield disabled, Unblocked returns the document in the answer. When Data Shield is enabled, Unblocked does not return the document in the answer.
Setting up Data Shield
To activate Data Shield, go to the Settings section in the Unblocked web app. Under Team Settings, select Security. Here, you’ll find the option to enable Data Shield.
Toggle the switch on to activate Data Shield for your team. A confirmation dialog will appear to confirm your decision. Once confirmed, this change will take effect immediately.
Enabling Data Shield per Data Source
By default, toggling the switch on will enable Data Shield for all data sources connected for your team, as well as any new data sources connected in the future.
For more fine-grained access control, Data Shield can be enabled on a per-data-source basis. Select Enable for specific data sources to see a full list of the data sources currently connected for your team. Check the row to enable Data Shield for the connected data source.
If Enable for specific data sources is selected, all newly connected data sources will have Data Shield disabled by default.
Disabling Data Shield
To disable Data Shield for your team, return to the Security page under Team Settings and toggle the Data Shield switch off.
To disable Data Shield for specific data sources, select Enable for specific connected data sources and uncheck the rows of the data sources to disable Data Shield.
Recommended User Settings
After enabling Data Shield, encourage your team to connect their accounts for each of the integrated tools and systems with Unblocked to ensure optimal responses.
